The history of HEAD
In 1939 Howard Head took a job as a riveter at an aircraft manufacturing company, where he was quickly promoted to engineer. During a company ski trip in 1946, Howard tried skiing which proved to be a turning point in his life. After 2 years he left his previous job to devote himself full time to the development of composite skis. In 1950, a company was founded called Head Ski Company, Inc.
Brand development
HEAD became the leading ski equipment brand in the United States and Europe in 1955. The turning point came in 1968, when the brand expanded into tennis equipment. A year later, Howard Head sold the company to AMF. In 1975, prominent tennis player Arthur Ashe won Wimbledon playing with HEAD tennis racket. After the AMF takeover, HEAD was acquired by the Minstar brand. Management bought out the HEAD, Tyrolia and Mares brands, creating HTM. HTM was subsequently sold to Austria Tabak.
Wide range of tennis equipment
HEAD is one of the most popular brands in the global tennis industry. Newer and newer models of racquets are released every year, used by a large proportion of the top players in the ATP and WTA rankings. In addition to racquets, HEAD also offers tennis clothing, shoes for hard and clay courts, tennis strings, tennis balls, overgrips, replacement grips and dampers.
